Baskins Creek Falls

January 1, 2012

This is a 3.2 mile round trip hike to Baskins Creek Falls. If you are visiting the falls after December 1st the hike will be a total of 3.6 miles because Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is closed and you will have to hike .2 miles past the road closure to reach the trail head. Once you have gone .2 miles up the road the trail will be on your left.

On the way to the falls you will start by climbing up and will see some nice views of the Smoky Mountains on your left. Once you have reached about 1.2 miles on the trail you will see a sign for Baskins  Creek Cemetery forking to the left. To get to the falls you will take the path to the right and continue on about .2 miles where you will soon see a sign for Baskins Falls on your left.

The descent to the falls will be on your left and it can be a challenge so a hiking stick might be helpful. Be careful going down, the rocks are often slippery!

We enjoyed this hike with Giles parents who are in their 50’s. For us 20 something’s the hike was moderate, but for young children or older folks I would say this might be a difficult hike because of the constant climb up, especially on the way back. Give yourself about 2.5 hours or more to reach the falls and enjoy your view.

We all really enjoyed the falls and even though Giles parents were pretty worn out afterwards they said it was definitely worth it! The trail was nice and quiet and we enjoyed the scenery the whole way. After Grotto Falls this is probably my favorite falls in the park.
